Is My Family Suffering Under a Generational Curse?

If you have heard the term “generational curse” it is a concept that means that there is a certain sin pattern in a persons family and it is only a matter of time before the next generation commits the same sins as the past generation did. Divorces, infidelity, abuses, bad financial stewardship, drug-use, and single parent homes are a few of the situations that are credited with being generational curses.

Pastor Blake Wilson teaches from Ezekiel 18:1-23 about  generational curses versus observational realities. Are certain sins prevalent in your family because of generation curses or the fact that children imitate what their parents showed them and have a lack of scriptural clarity in those areas?

Generational Curses have far worse consequences than solely passing on family traits which is being described in the above article.
My Fathers family have been under a generational curse since the 1850′s, this curse was initially inflicted upon my Great,Great Grandfather in Wales, UK. Unbelievably he was cursed by the vicar of the local Chapel. The story of this curse has always been known within the family, and how I see it the curse is almost complete. I’m the last person the curse will affect (4th generation – eldest son of the eldest son of the eldest son of the only daughter), and the pattern of the curse is complex but Oh so obvious! In a nutshell, at present I’m the only living descendant of my Great,Great Grandfather who is living in Wales. Through lots of outside manipulation from an unknown power over the last 160 years it set out to destroy our habitation of Wales. I’ve been manipulated out of Wales too, I’m moving to England in 3 weeks – couldn’t stop it happening. The curse then will have played out – no descendants left in Wales! There’s nothing you can do stopping a curse, just go with it, It’s not all bad along the way, to be honest I feel like I’ve got a guardian watching over me, i’m hoping the guardian stays with me when i move to England.

good message he may not believe in curses or generational curses. I do believe that curses exist whether they are generational or not they do exist and with the power of God they can be broken. i believe in casting out devils also. like i said the message was good and he made some good points but i believe that curses are real and can be broken by the power of God.

One of the reasons we felt it necessary to post this talk is not to speak about whether curses are real or not but to focus on the fact that God will judge all of us based our own individual actions. We are not predisposed and forced by a curse to repeat the sins of our forefathers.

Yes, everyone passes on the sin nature to their children due to the fall of man; however it is our own disobedience that God is holding us accountable to. Definitely check out Ezekiel 18:1-23, the passage contrasts 3 people: a father who is obedient to God, a son who is disobedient and a grandson who is obedient to God.

The speaker was highlighting the fact that people tend to “do what they see” (observational reality), however we are not forced by a curse to repeat the mistakes of the past generations, if we have the Word of God and follow what he says we can ensure our children have a great example to follow and that their observational reality will be seeing obedience to God.
